Using Wire

Last Updated 10/14/09

1. A really cute dragonfly done out of wire or maybe a little butterfly.

2. A tight coil of it would look like a spring. Use for a spring with Hugs and Kisses (Everyday Expressions) on front and the lips from the Irish set (Kiss Me) on the inside springing out when you open card.

3. Add beads and use as embellishment for Ancient Art, and other ethnic sets.

4. Add wire through the middle...on my Christmas cards this year, I used wire through the middle of the star in Greetings for All Reasons. And then curled the ends.

5. Antennae for every bee butterfly and bug out there.

6. Arms for snowmen.

7. As fishing line.

8. Balloon strings on any set with a balloon.

9. Basket handles.

10. Christmas tree garlands - string beads and such on it for visual interest

11. Country styled items with raffia, Kraft brown paper, or with a corrugated layer are especially cute.

12. Create a border down the side of, or around, a small layered piece.

13. Create a thing out of the wire. Like a heart, bug, shape.

14. Crystal Effects (the best choice but factor in drying time.)

15. Curly hair.

16. Cut one end off a Q-tip, the ones with plastic sticks, and then curl away. With one end gone you can curl and slide the wire off. This fits in the box so that it can travel nicely.

17. Different colors of short curlicues "exploding" from a gift box like confetti in a b-day set.

18. Don't want it curly . . . run it through your paper crimper for a very interesting texture!

19. For curls suggestions include twisting it on a lollipop stick or on a small diameter pencil, the stick of a Q-tip, or small piece of dowel.

20. For small layered ornaments . . . star Santa is way cute.

21. For stringing shrink plastic and other charms on pencils, etc.

22. Green wire twisted and used with grape or other vine sets with cut out leaves, to look like the tendrils.

23. Halos for angels.

24. Hang a small cut out image, using the wire as the attachment. Add wire through the middle.

25. Hang something off of a word saying, or a bold image.

26. It could hold on a small tag or a small flat section of the wire could have a small layered card stock saying glued over top if it.

27. It will add a springy accent to any card.

28. Long & short curlicues used to embellish any sets that have grapes and grape vines or other vines.

29. Make little flower power rings to go with the groovy set.

30. On Christmas cards, use wire through the middle of the star in Greetings for All Reasons. And then curl the ends.

31. Run through your paper crimper to get a “funky” design.

32. Same idea with the new Frog set, frogs bouncing out at you.

33. Sketch it etc.

34. Special tools are sold for bending the wire and you can usually find them in the bead section of craft or fabric stores. Uses for the curls:

35. Spider legs on Bitty Boos.

36. Stamp a floral set then curl your wire around a narrow dowel stick and add it to the card. It will add a springy accent to an otherwise dull floral scene.

37. Stamp and cut out a bee, small butterfly, or other bug, cute sets would work best. Attach a piece of the wire which has been curled around into a "flight pattern" to the back of the bug and attach the other end to the card. It could hold on a small tag or a small flat section of the wire could have a small layered card stock saying glued over top if it.

38. Stamp and cut out a bee, small butterfly, or other bug, cute sets would work best. Attach a piece of the wire which has been curled around into a "flight pattern" to the back of the bug and attach the other end to the card.

39. Stems for some really whimsical flowers.

40. The wire is excellent for making identical shapes to match your stamps. Here's one way to use it: take the small heart stamp from LOVE ALWAYS and run the wire around the outside edge of the stamp to copy the shape. Then use needle-nosed pliers to make the little loops and viola! You have a heart which is very like the one stamped on the front of a valentine note book. Then hook the hearts into ribbon and tie it into a bow to add a touch of decoration to the books.

41. The wire is extremely soft and pliable

42. Think of a few tight coils on a card with Tool Time set would look cool, maybe with a twine bow or raffia. (Wire can be a guy thing after all.) A tight coil of it would look like a spring.

43. To create a border down the side of, or around, the shape stamps.

44. To hold a tag to a card.

45. Try to 'create' an object or shape out of the wire. Like a heart. How do you curl or mold the wire?

46. Use a hot glue gun (not my favorite choice as it takes time for the gun to heat up and sometimes makes the paper pucker.)

47. Use all curled up on the pompoms from the Go Team set.

48. Use as the cord for the Christmas light stamp in Holiday Sampler.

49. Use for a spring with Hugs and Kisses (Everyday Expressions) on front and the lips from the Irish set (Kiss Me) on the inside springing out when you open card.

50. Use for a spring with Hugs and Kisses (Everyday Expressions), the lips from the Irish set (Kiss Me), or frogs from the Frog set.

51. Use the 1/16” punch and punch two holes fairly close to each other. Thread wire through and then twist the two ends together. This is similar to the method we use to tie a bow.

52. Use the end of a 'el cheapo' paint brush to curl the ends of your wire. Do you know which paint brushes I'm talking about? Those brightly colored ones that usually come 10-12 in a pack for $2 or so? The wire wraps around the end for the most perfect curly q's.

53. Use them as hangers for Christmas tree ornaments.

54. Use wire and beads to make a dangling beaded candleholder.

55. Use Wire and Charms (poly shrink, paper clay, etc.) together. Use this way to embellish scrapbook pages or cards. Or you can incorporate actual charms to display your favorite keepsakes. Home made, stamped charms can be chosen to complement the page theme and add embellishment as desired.

56. Wire springing out from amongst a bunch of tools from our Tool Time set would look cool. (Wire can be a guy thing after all.) A tight coil of it would look like a spring or a roll of wire.

57. With country styled items with raffia, Kraft brown paper, or with a corrugated layer are especially cute.

58. Wrapped around packages.

59. Wrapping around a pouch for the Christmas card.

60. Writing with wire. How many of you have used the wire on cards? Wire can be formed to create letters in scrapbook journaling. Turn into tight coils and shape to form letters. Cool.
